Sambal Rice Bowl
I made this dish out of the blue. It wasn't even a plan to make a recipe on it, I was just craving for something spicy and I saw the sambal paste on our pantry that my wife bought for me. She's a big fan of spicy food so she buy every spicy condiments in the grocery!
Sambal is an Indonesian chili paste mixed with a variety of chili peppers. You can make it at home by blending chili peppers, ginger, garlic, onion, sugar, and lemon juice. Or for convenience you can buy it at your local asian grocery.
This asian inspired dish is vegan friendly I used tofu as my protein and I added veggies and a plain white rice. Very simple dish! It has an umami flavor of sweet from hoisin sauce and spice from the sambal paste. It reminds me of my trip in Singapore where I first tried Indonesian cuisine. 5 oz firm tofu, cut in small cubes
5 cloves of chopped garlic
1/2 of red bell pepper, sliced
A quarter of 1 red onion, sliced
6 pcs button mushroom, sliced
2 tbsp. hoisin sauce
2 tbsp. sambal olek chili paste
1 tsp. sugar
1 tsp. salt
1/4 cup of water
2 cups of cooked white rice
Cut spring onion for garnish
